Match Point System

Win = 4 points
Draw = 2 points
Lost = 0 points

Bonus points
4 or more tries = 1 point
Lost by 7 or less points = 1 point

Typically, the maximum point for a winning team is 5 (4 for winning and 1 extra point if the team scored 4 tries or more).

Maximum points for a loss is 2 points (1 if the team still scored 4 tries and 1 if they lost by 7 or less points).

A draw is 3 max points (2 for the draw and 1 extra if the team scored 4 tries or more).

Example of point allocation

A team can still lose even though they scored 4 tries or more so in that scenario they earn a bonus point.

So let's say Team A played Team B.

Team A scored 45 points (won)
Team B scored 40 points (lost)

Team A earned 5 points
4 - for winning.
1 - for scoring 4 tries or more. This is referred to as Bonus point.

Team B earned 2 points
1 - for scoring 4 tries or more. Referred to as Bonus point.
1 - for losing by 7 points or less. They lost by 5 points.  Referred to as Bonus point.
